British TV inspires online roulette boom in the UK

From fashion trends and common sayings to public opinion and the foods we eat, television has had a big impact on modern culture. Yet it’s more than just trends that are inspired by TV, as Bingo Wonga is claiming that the tele may actually be responsible for the recent boom of online slots in the UK.

Since legalizing online gambling in 2005, the UK has see enormous growth in the gaming sector, and while most punters seem to stick to sports betting, poker and online slots, roulette has begun to see a bit of a renaissance in recent years and it all may be thanks to IT1.

Beginning in 2008, live roulette aired nightly as part of Challenge Jackpot, an interactive gaming channel that also broadcast on Sky TV, and proved quite popular with gamers across the UK – reportedly awarding more than £121 million pounds in 2010 alone.

The programming, which has retreated ITV1’s The Zone since January, has allegedly inspired many players to try their luck at roulette games in pubs, betting parlors and bingo halls across the country.
