FairPlayUSA hopes to legalize online poker

A number of state legislators in the United States have been leading the charge to legalize online gambling, and the fight just took a large step forward. The Hill reports that a number of supporters have come together to form FairPlayUSA, which will advocate for the legalization of online poker.

The organization is in response to a 2006 law that barred players in the U.S. from transferring money to online gaming sites. However, the Federal Government may be changing its tune after Texas Congressman Joe Barton is expected to introduce a bill that will legalize online poker.

FairPlayUSA hopes to facilitate the passage of such legalization by highlighting measures put in place to prevent cheating and underage players getting in.

"I also strongly support the strict regulation of online poker," former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge said in a press release. "Americans who choose to play poker against each other on the Internet should be assured that the games are fair and limited to adults."

FairPlayUSA is comprised of several other big names including professional poker player Greg Raymer.
