Government wants stronger online gambling laws in the UK

Ever since the UK Gambling Commission came out with its newest statistics on the prevalence of online gambling in the UK, John Penrose, UK’s Minister of Tourism and Hertiage, has been trying to change the laws, the Rhyl Journal reports.

The statistics showed an increase of visitors to free online bingo sites, which also host various other games such as blackjack, poker and roulette. However, the laws are fairly lax and Penrose believes that all gambling companies – whether based in Britain or not – should obtain a license from the UK Gambling Commission, which can eliminate unfair gambling.

"We will create a level playing field, so all overseas operators will be subject to the same standards and requirements as those based in Britain, as well as being required to inform the Gambling Commission about suspicious betting patterns to help fight illegal activity and corruption in betting," said Penrose in a released statement.

If Penrose’s wishes come true, then gamers will be able to visit their favorite sites without fear that they are illegitimate.
