Iowa lawmaker believes online poker will not pass

Iowa State Representative Dan Huseman wrote an op-ed in the Cherokee Chronicle Times outlining why he believes that a proposed online gambling will not be passing. He referenced a series of polls in which Iowans said they would vote against it.

Huseman added that a poll "showed that 70 percent of Iowans are opposed to legalizing [online] gambling, yet the Senate is moving a bill forward to do just that. If it comes over to the House, I do not believe it would pass. But if it did, it would not have my support."

According to the Globe Gazette, the members of the Senate State Government Committee voted 11-4 to allow the Racing and Gaming Commission to host operators and start online poker. The newest version of the bill, which includes the regulations involved if it does pass, was released on Monday, and will be voted on shortly.

Do you think that online gambling will pass in Iowa? What do you think the chance of online roulette or slots becoming legalized in addition to poker?
