Ireland in final stages of online betting tax plans

Ireland is expected to increase the online betting tax in the country along with charging 15 percent on all Irish bets from offshore companies, according to the Gambling Kingz.

By doing so, the government is expecting that there will be an increase of €20 million a year, and it announced that it will put some of that money in tackling gambling addictions in Ireland.

"It was confirmed to me that legislation that will extend betting duties to include remote betting and betting exchanges is currently at an advanced stage. The Minister [of Finance] reiterated this in his budget speech," said Fine Gael South West Deputy Noel Harrington in a statement. "To date betting duties have only applied to bets placed in betting shops with bets placed by Irish punters either online or over the phone, essentially with offshore entities, falling outside the tax net."

What do you think of the increase of online betting tax in Ireland? Do you think that this specific tax situation should be applied elsewhere?
