New York and New Jersey expect online gambling by the end of 2012

New York and New Jersey seem to be gearing up to pass online gambling legislation. The two states are trying to move forward and take advantage of the new legal opinion released by the Department of Justice, according to the New York Post.

Both states believe that they will have players betting on online poker by the end of 2012, as the process could take about eight months before it is completed, according to the news source.

"This has opened the floodgates for states to set up online poker laws so they can offer it through their own lottery systems, without any federal involvement," analyst Roger Gros, publisher of Global Gaming Business, told the news outlet.

The other states that are expected to push legislation through are Illinois, Nevada and California, the media outlet reports.

Do you think that New York and New Jersey will be the first to legalize gambling in the United States? Do you think that poker will be first or online roulette, slots or craps?
