Rep. Stephen Sandstrom introduces new bill banning online gaming in Utah

Utah Representative Stephen Sandstrom has introduced a new bill, which will prohibit any type of online gaming in the state if and when Congress legalizes online gambling.

“We want to keep Utah free from the negative impacts of legalized gambling,” said Sandstrom, a lifelong resident of Utah who is known as a staunch Reagan conservative. “Without courageous leadership to block Internet gaming, Utah could see Indian casinos popping up statewide in just a few years.”

The bill will prevent any type of gambling including online roulette, poker and slots from occurring in the state. It would also prevent Indian casinos from coming into Utah. It will now go through Congress to see if it will pass.

Utah and Hawaii are the only states that prohibit any type of gambling. However, that may change as Hawaii is considering legalizing gaming in the near future.

Do you think the bill will pass? Do you believe that the U.S. Congress will legalize online gambling overall?
